Nascentia Health and the City of Rome are proud to announce that New York State has awarded critical funding to support the development of Nascentia Neighborhood, a transformative housing community that will enhance quality of life for adults 55 and older in Rome.
The award comes as part of the 2025 Regional Economic Development Council initiative, in which New York State announced more than $463 million in statewide investments in economic development and housing projects. The Mohawk Valley region received $23.4 million to support 30 local projects, including a $3.9 million Pro-Housing Supply Fund grant to the City of Rome and Nascentia Health specifically for Nascentia Neighborhood.
“Nascentia Neighborhood represents an exciting future for Rome’s residents, increasing housing options, strengthening local infrastructure, and supporting aging in place,” said Mayor Jeffery Lanigan, City of Rome. “We are grateful for New York State’s commitment to investing in our community and for our continued partnership with Nascentia Health.”
This award will fund essential infrastructure improvements, including:
- Construction of new utilities, roads, sidewalks, and stormwater drainage
- Site preparation to enable development of 125 senior housing units
- Foundation work to support a mix of affordable rental and ownership options in a vibrant neighborhood designed for older adults and families
“The support from Governor Hochul’s office marks a major milestone for Nascentia Neighborhood,” said Kate Rolf, President and CEO of Nascentia Health. “This funding not only allows us to advance critical infrastructure for the project but also affirms our shared vision of an aging-in-place community where neighbors can live with dignity, access to resources, meaningful connection, and choice. We are grateful for New York State’s commitment to investing in our project and for our continued partnership with Mayor Lanigan and the City of Rome.”
Nascentia Neighborhood will transform the historic Beeches Manor property into an aging-in-place community, offering a mix of housing options and amenities that support wellness, social engagement, and long-term livability for older adults. This strategic investment strengthens Rome’s housing supply, creates new opportunities for residents, and supports the city’s broader economic goals.
“We are deeply appreciative of the Mohawk Valley Regional Economic Development Council for their leadership and investment in this project,” added Kate Rolf. “Together, we will build a neighborhood that meets the needs of our aging population and sets a new standard for a vibrant, inclusive community where adults can stay active, engaged, and deeply connected to the place they call home.”
